Statistically-one day you may need them….

I live for summer. The sun, breeze, smell and colours are magnified for me, I will never complain about the heat, or feeling sticky, or having my ice cream melt. I wait ten months to enjoy this short lived season and I hope to make the most of it. Watching my social media feed I can tell many of you are off to impressive European destinations or summer cottages. I hope you are enjoying your time and your company. With that being said- I am keeping this update short 🙂
Taking at look at this week’s “Living Your Life w Lianne Laing” podcast we focus on cancer coaching.
One in two Canadian are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. One in four are expected to die. It is the leading cause of death for Canadians, however in recent years the death rates have decreased. That’s the positive side.

It’s a disease that affects us all since we likely know someone who is fighting it, has beaten it or has lost someone to it.
In the US, cancer care expenditures are now in the 1.5 billion dollar range. Much of this has to do with treatments and adopted standard of care. The medical aspect is one thing, but what about everything else that goes with it.
There are a range of issues like: understanding diagnosis, how to prepare for side effects of treatment, how to talk to family, how to handle leaving/returning to work, how to prepare for end of life, the right questions to ask their oncologist, strategies to cope, navigating the healthcare system etc. etc.
This is where cancer coaching comes into play.  Joining me on the podcast from the Maplesoft Cancer Center is Cancer Coach Patty Barrett- Robillard.

I found the information to be valuable, emotional, educational and also uplifting. Patty does a great job at taking us through the process and if you know someone who is in need of their services I hope you connect with them. http://www.ottawacancer.ca

I came across this quote the other day and it hit me so hard that I stopped in my tracks.  It rippled an energy through my body that I hadn’t anticipated. All at once, I felt fear, excitement, stress and possibility sink in. This is where I find myself these days. My meditation is now daily and something I now really look forward too. The deeper sleep, energy and positive mindset seem to be the side effects- so I can’t complain about that. I continue to read and explore what meditation can do for a person and I am loving the learning process. It has been a while since I have immersed myself in something so foreign and yet, it quickly became an essential part of my life. I am smart enough to know, I should have listened to all the experts about this additional aspect to overall health. But I am listening now. I continue to use the Headspace app but now find myself doing unguided meditations on my own. Even as I write this newsletter I can feel the energy flowing different than before.

Are any of you new to meditation? Are you trying? Have you considered it? I would love to hear your stories.

Reminder- sale is ending for the Awaken A Better You Wellness Cruise- still thinking about joining us? Others are :)- more announcements to come 🙂
