Turning the focus now to this week’s “Living Your Life w Lianne Laing’ podcast. Life lessons learned on the golf course with Kevin Haime.
My dad Jeff loved to play golf, he loved everything about the game, and as a child I tried to get my head around it but couldn’t quite get there. Eventually when I was working I learned to play- I didn’t want to be the token girl out on the course at fundraisers and so I picked it up. My husband Tony is an avid golfer, not quite the scratch golfer he used to be since we had kids but I knew if I didn’t take up the game I would eventually be a golf widow in retirement. I love a nine and dine and I’m good to pack it in by 12 holes.
What I respect most about the game- are its nuisances- and that this game above all others reveals a persons true character – their integrity, honesty and sportsmanship. You cheat at golf- you cheat at life.
Don’t panic, this podcast is not all about golf. Kevin, who grew up around the game has built an incredible business with his wife Lisa. A player himself, Kevin describes the lessons learned growing up on a golf course and how the sport eventually led him to his own business. He talks about the partnership with Lisa, the constant need for growth and expansion and the “Disney” experience. He has great stories seen on and off the course and we spend quite a bit of time talking about the junior programs he has created. Philanthropy took on a different meaning when Kevin created the “Kids To The Course” program. We talk about the influence sport has on a child and why this program has provided a new life for some of the kids who have participated in it. Business, mentorship, family, health and wellness all covered in our chat. |
